The primary function of IL-8 is to recruit neutrophils to sites of inflammation. IL-8 is approximately 75 amino acids plus or minus 5 amino acids in all species compared. Although small, the percent homology varies from the high 80's between sheep, cows, and dogs and as low as 60% between guinea pigs and horses.
