Kingfisher Biotech's portfolio of VEGF-A recombinant proteins includes, bovine, canine, equine, feline, mouse, ovine, rabbit , rat, swine, and zebrafish VEGF-A.
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) proteins stimulate vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. They are part of the system that restores the oxygen supply to tissues when blood circulation is inadequate. The normal function of VEGF proteins is to create new blood vessels during embryonic development, new blood vessels after injury, muscle following exercise, and new vessels (collateral circulation) to bypass blocked vessels. The VEGF family has six members, including VEGF-A, VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D, VEGF-E, and Placental Growth Factor (PGF). Activity of VEGF-A, as its name implies, has been studied mostly on cells of the vascular endothelium, although it does have effects on a number of other cell types (e.g., stimulation monocyte/macrophage migration, neurons, cancer cells, kidney epithelial cells). In vitro, VEGF-A has been shown to stimulate endothelial cell mitogenesis and cell migration. VEGF-A is also a vasodilator and increases microvascular permeability and was originally referred to as vascular permeability factor (VPF).
A recent bioassay of our bovine, canine, and mouse VEGF-A based on the proliferation of HUVECs demonstrated that all three proteins are highly active on the human cell line.

New Products - July 2015
Kingfisher Biotech, Inc. is committed to accelerating basic veterinary research and human disease research done in animal models by developing and commercializing research reagents specific for a variety of species, including bovine, canine, caprine, chicken, dolphin, equine, feline, guinea pig, hamster, human, mouse, ovine, rabbit, rat, swine, and turkey. We have just started adding cynomolgus monkey and zebrafish products. Currently, we offer over 1200 recombinant proteins, polyclonal antibodies, monoclonal antibodies and ELISA kits for animal health and animal model research. Our products are primarily cytokines, chemokines, interferons, and growth factors. Our product development queue is filled mainly by customer requests. If there is a product that you are looking for and can't find, please send us an email.

VEGF in Non-Murine Animal Models of Normal Physiological Processes and Disease
Angiogenesis is a dynamic process that results
in the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing vasculature. This
process is regulated by a host of pro- and anti-angiogenic factors
(Iruela-Arispe 1997). When there is an imbalance favoring pro-angiogenic
stimuli, the angiogenic switch is thrown (Bergers 2003). Blood vessels dilate
and become leaky, pericytes that surround and support mature blood vessels
loosen their connections, and the vasculature basement membrane and
extracellular matrix is degraded by proteases allowing endothelial cells to
proliferate and migrate towards the angiogenic stimuli. As endothelial cells
migrate through the angiogenic gradient, they adhere together in a tube
structure and a lumen is formed. Pericytes then migrate and stabilize the new
vessel. One of the most potent stimulators of blood vessel growth is vascular
endothelial growth factor (VEGF) (Ferrara 1997). more...
